Barthco Trade Services (BTS) is a group of international trade professionals who provide a suite of services that fall outside of the traditional brokerage and forwarding functions typically performed by Barthco. Our services are typically project oriented, but also involve many day-to-day issues.
BTS was formed to provide importers and exporters with needed services above and beyond traditional customs brokerage and forwarding.
We are here to help you meet those needs and handle those responsibilities.
Barthco Integrity Program
Our Logistics Integrity team can assist global corporations in conducting supply chain risk analysis from point of origin through to ultimate destination. The team is comprised of veteran logistics managers; retired federal investigators with distinguished careers at the U.S. Customs Service, Office of Investigations; and recognized legal counsel with expertise in international trade.
Our risk analysis can help in development of processes and procedures that follow the U.S. Customs - Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) guidelines. Participation in the C-TPAT program will benefit importers, exporters, transportation providers, warehousemen, manufacturers, customs brokers and forwarders involved in global logistics by enabling them to attain the most cost effective, efficient, and timely supply chain processes. U.S. Customs states that participation in the program will result in quicker cargo releases on arrival, and far fewer examinations of containerized cargo.
Audit
Typically a customer who suspects they will be the subject of an audit will contact BTS to conduct a “mock” audit so they can correct errors prior to a Customs review. Additionally, customers request us to conduct quarterly audits on a specified number of entries to ensure compliance. BTS can also be involved during an actual Customs audit to interpret findings and make disclosures on behalf of the importer. The scope of the audit can be comprehensive or can focus or a particular issue such as classification or special duty program.
Classification
The nature of this work provides assistance directly to importers who request BTS to perform line reviews and pre-classifications of their merchandise on a long term basis. This information typically becomes part of a product library which is accessed by our operations employees at the time of entry. Additionally, customers may also contact us to provide classification information at various times on an item by item basis and to request binding rulings from Customs.
Customs Compliance
Import compliance involves the creation and follow-through of policies and procedures that will assistance an importer with meeting their reasonable care standard. BTS will work with the importer to create a comprehensive customs compliance manual incorporating policy and procedure that are already in place and when necessary, create new procedures that are compliant with Customs and Border Protection.
Education and Training
BTC conducts seminars and workshops on a variety of topics. Many times BTS is requested by a customer to put together a specific training or informational seminar to be presented to company employees. Other times a program of related topics is put together for a customer.
Other Government Agencies (OGA)
This area covers work with any government agency other than Customs and Border Protection. OGA may include but is not limited to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), or U.S. Department of Agricultural (USDA).
Personnel/Temporary Staffing
A customer may request temporary staffing from BTS. We will determine who will best fit the need based on the type of product or nature of work requested.
In addition to staffing, BTS can also assist customers with the interviewing process when they are considering prospective new hires. BTS is asked to conduct pre-interviews or make recommendations regarding job descriptions and qualifications.
Security

This area focuses mainly on the Customs and Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). BTS works with customers who want to become certified in this program. In addition to customer certification, BTS can assist customers with the C-TPAT validation process.
Research/Consulting
BTS is often asked by both customers and other Barthco stations to research a particular issue. BTS will do research work on a variety of topics including but not limited to classification, valuation, country of origin determination, origin marking and labeling, special duty programs, OGA issues, Customs issues, admissibility concerns, import and export compliance issues, post entry work including SIL and protest, etc.
BTS is also requested by customers to consult on a particular project or compliance manual and provide opinions, policy and procedure and establish best practices.
Stay Informed!
BTS provides email alerts on hot trade topics, product notices, newsletter contributions and subscription distribution to internal stations and external customers. BTS also acts as an industry watch dog and provides information on international trade trends and important information that affect our customers on a daily basis.
